Margaret McNamara Educational Grants for African Women to Study in the United States and Canada

The Margaret McNamara Educational Grants (MMEG) provides grants to women from developing countries to help them further their education and strengthen their leadership skills in order to improve the lives of women and children in those countries.

Around $15,000 in education grants are offered to women from low- and middle-income countries who intend to return to or remain in their home countries, or other low- and middle-income countries, after completing their degree, and work to improve the lives of women and/or children.

FIELDS OF STUDY ACCEPTED

Any academic discipline.

ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility Criteria for Margaret McNamara Educational Grants for African Women to Study in the United States and Canada

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

At the time of the application deadline, you must be at least 25 years old (see individual regional program application below);

Except for the Trinity Washington University program, be a citizen of one of the countries mentioned on the MMEG Country Eligibility List.

When submitting an application, be enrolled (not merely accepted) at an accredited academic institution, and expect to remain enrolled for a full academic term after the Board awards the grant.

Not be related to or married to a member of the World Bank Group, the International Monetary Fund, or the Inter-American Development Bannk.

Be enrolled full-time as a student, with a valid student visa in your national passport, and intend to continue studying full-time the next academic year.

Not a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident of the United States (green card), not a citizen of Canada or a landed immigrant in Canada.

Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Democratic Republic, Congo, Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius.

HOW TO MAKE AN APPLICATION

Remember to read the Application Checklist and FAQs before applying, and in the first question of the application, pick “US-Canada program.”

If the program name does not show, it is possible that the program is no longer open to new applications.

Between September 15 and January 15, applications are accepted. During this time, please send any questions to us-canada@mmeg.org.

At the end of March, we’ll post the results on our website. The successful candidates will be contacted directly.
